Ustad Asif Mahmoud
Asif participated in Radio Delhi Dari and
Pashto programs. In India, Ustad Asif initially learned the tabla
from Ustad Chhota Ahmad Khan and then from the late Ustad Allah
Rakha Khan the masters of Punjab Gharana.
In 1975 Ustad Asif received the title of Ustad.
Ustad Asif has numerous concerts in Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan,
India, Germany, England, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Soviet
Union (Tashkand, Samar Qand, Bukhara, etc.) and the United States.
He has accompanied most of the famous musicians in Afghanistan
such as Ustad Sarahang, Ustad Mohammed Omar, Ustad Rahim Bakhsh,
and Ahmad Zahir and almost all professional musicians and amateur
singers at Radio Afghanistan. He has also played with Ustad Salamat
Ali Khan, Ustad Omid Ali Khan, Ustad Amanat Ali Khan, Ustad Fateh
Ali Khan, Ustad Monawar Ali Khan, Ustad Sultan Khan, Ustad Abdul
Aleem Jafar Khan, Pandit Gopal Mishra, and Ustad Ali Reza Khan.
He has accompanied local Pakistani singers such as Suri, Gou-Goush,
and Seema Beena. Ustad Asif has had numerous concerts with western
musicians from his Kabul Goethe Institute with famous German
pianists to Dr. John Bailey in England and the USA.
Ustad Asif left Afghanistan in 1988 and initially
migrated to India and then to England. He has been living in
London for eleven years, while giving music classes in Fremont,
California and Alexandria, Virginia. Recently, Ustad Asif has
accompanied musicians such as Ustad Fateh Ali Khan in Virginia,
Ustad Sultan Khan in California, Ustad Rahim Bakhsh in New York
and San Francisco, Dr. John Bailey in London, Sweden, San Francisco
and Salt Lake City, Ustad Hamahang, Naim Nazari in Virginia,
Rahim Jehani, Salma, and Najeem. Ustad Asif accompanies his son
Mohammad Yusuf Mahmoud in his concerts around the world.
