The Timelessness
and Timeliness of Sufi Morals
Pir Zia Inayat Khan
"Humility like the earth,
generosity like the river,
affection like the sun."
-Khwaja Muinuddin Chishtiyya
Sufism describes three major
stages in the development of the self (nafs): the imperative
self, the self-critical self, and the tranquil self. To each
of these corresponds an appropriate moral posture: to the first,
reciprocity; to the second, beneficence; to the third, renunciation.
This lecture will explore the relevance of these moral postures
to the world in which we live.

The Culture
of Love & Stages of the Spiritual Journey
Kabir Helminski
This talk will explore the
profound relationship between love and knowledge in Rumi's work.
Rumi, however, was not merely concerned with love as a theoretical
matter, nor as a subject of literary activity. His main concern
was making the experience of divine love available to any human
being with the longing for such experience. The teachings of
Rumi became a "culture of love" in the Mevlevi Way.
Kabir Helminski will describe the daily life, aesthetic values,
expressions of courtesy, and stages of attainment as they were
understood and practiced within Mevlevi tradition for seven centuries.
